Result: STAGS win by 23 runs
STAGS 114 - 7 (18 overs), Crabtree 91-9 (18 overs)
First of all - welcome to two new Crabbers; Martin Goodwin and Giles Collingwood. STAGS won the toss and elected to bat. They got off to a reasonable start but were losing wickets at regular intervals. Chris P bowled very well ending up with 3-11 from his 3 overs. Matt A picked up the other early wicket to keep the scoring in check. Indeed the run rate never got out of hand, good bowling by Matthew G with just 6 off his 2 overs, and just 7 and a wicket off Giles C.Darren P also bowled well for his 1-15 off 3 overs. Special mention must be made to Rob C, who took a blinder of a catch which will take some beating as catch of the year. Imagine Gordon Banks leaping up and to his left, reaching high to get his finger tips to a fierce on-drive, then the parry and the outreaching right hand to catch the ball as he fell to ground (we won't mention the dropped catch off my bowling Rob!). In general a good performance in the field and well marshalled by skip Nic H.
So a gettable total, but a disasterous start. After 6 overs we were 7 for 3! So to get to 91 against some good straight bowling was a creditable performance. Yours truly hit 21 (thanks for acting as runner, Rob), Matt A a hearty 18, and Nic H a solid 26*. But after such a start and against some pretty good bowling, it was always going to be uphill. By the time Graham R went in we needed 6 off every ball, unlikely even for one of Graham's talents.
Then off to the pub for an excellent spread of sausage and chip butties. An enjoyable evening's cricket played in great spirit, just a shame we couldn't conjure a win.
