Alvin Wooley's XI 133 for 8 wkts; CCC 134 for 1 wkt; WON by 9wkts
Result: Won by 9 wickets
A first match against Alvin Wolley's XI was a rather jolly affair. You could almost imagine this was an extension to some family holiday all that was missing was a beach! The match started with a combination generous bowling by CCC and effective batting by AW XI such that after 7 overs 66 runs had been scored. At this stage we could have been looking at chasing a proper 20/20 score. However as they lost their more effective batsmen we started to restrict the scoring rate which resulted in a total of 133 being posted. The pick of the CCC bowlers were Darren Payne 3-25 and Nick Hale 1-7. The pick of the CC fielders did not include Tim Jenkins you never drop catches off your own bowling Tim. Chris Horn swallowed a very impressive catch at short third man. It would have been more impressive to get out of the way. Chasing a total of 130 odd has caused us problems in the past, not tonight however. Martin Goodwin 21, Alastair Rawlinson 28 no and Ian Blanchard 25no started the chase which ended with scoring the winning run in the 15th over. A welcome curry and pint in the Engineer followed. In the end we weathered the storm by applying all hands to the pumps which left us plain sailing.
