|Match Report: 26th June, 6:00PM, Verulam, Verulamium Park|
Result: Lost by 43 runs
On a dull damp evening at Verulamium Park you can guess what happened. Crabtree did not really turn up. It is a lovely ground overlooked by the Abbey but we rarely prosper here.
Verulam started off aggressively helped by our wayward bowling but we did tighten up later with good overs from Martin,Danny,Nic and especially Rob and Ian. It was good to see Danny back to his old rhythm after a long absence and some venomous bowling from Mat A. There were two notable fielding performances - a high stretching catch on the boundary by Martin and some smart work between Adam Cole and Nic to secure a run-out with a direct hit. In the end we managed to keep them down to 119 for 3.
This total soon became formidable. With the slow pace, uneven bounce and descending gloom nobody except Rob[ 28 ret] and Nic could time the ball. Even so the long damp grass restricted us to 5 boundaries. Verulam bowled and fielded well in the conditions and we could only muster 76 for 8 off our 20 overs.
To down our sorrows at the Six Bells was the only answer.
