Crabtree Win the Cinders!
Result: Win by 5 wickets
A simple statistic of a 5 wicket win does not reflect a highly enjoyable match. Cole loses the toss, Manland decide to bat. A very impressive 152 run 3rd wicket stand by Wigan! and Wedd resulted in Manland setting an almost unreachable target of 271. At one stage it looked like they might have set an even higher target however another long hop by Cole looked set for six until Martin Goodwin stepped in with his big goalkeeping mits. Goodwin also took 4 wickets with his unreadable bowling. Cole still refused to keep out of the limelight with a dive (or was it a trip) that threatened to set a new record for an earthquake in Harpenden. Crabtree's reply was steady but NOT SLOW. Rawlinson took a leaf out of the Arnerich school of batting or was it the other way round. However once Ben Newton, 104 no, and Gareth Lloyd, 54, (the new guy still studying at the Hale school of fielding) first steadied the nerves and later with superb hitting allowed Crabtree to get reach the total with 4 overs to spare. The stand was not recorded but I would estimate it to be at least 175 runs. Manland conceded the Cinders and presented Cole with the highly valuable trophy at the Amble Inn.
