|Match Report: 2nd June, 2:00PM, Red Bat, TBC|
Result: Won by 16 runs
What for a long time it looked like an easy win turned into an excellent game of cricket with real excitement at the end. Batting first both Arnerich and Jenkins failed to cope with fast swing bowling from Billy Hewlett. However, resolute batting from Threlfall (65) and excellent hitting from Bailey Senior (96) with a stand of 111 put us in the position to obtain a very respectable score of 232. Other highlights of the innings included Billy H coming back and getting a five for, Richard B avoiding the jug, Bailey Junior reverse sweeping the last ball and a rather noisy 'keeper. In reply Red Bat lost wickets at regular intervals and were always behind the run rate until young Hewlett and friend took fancy to the bowling and Phil W in particular. At the death fine catching under pressure from Cole saw us home. It could be argued (not by me) that having alread y already dropped 6 catches (or 8?) we put ourselves under pressure. Other notable events of Red Bat's reply were young Bailey's jug avoidance for his dad by dropping his third catch (please note older players he had held two already - good effort Nick), Blanchard getting a four for with variable off-spin and Martin with an interesting five and one hobble balls. Thanks to Aiden and Giles for some excellent bowling.
